Description

Phenyltrimethicone, also known as polyphenylmethylsiloxane, is a silicone liquid. As a class, silicones improve the feel, look, and performance of cosmetic products. These ingredients act as silky moisturizers, conditioners, solvents, and delivery vehicles for other skincare ingredients. Silicones are able to help with redness and irritation of the skin due to their low surface tension, which allows them to easily spread over the surface of the skin and form a protective coating. Phenyltrimethicone is also used as a skin and hair care product due to its ability to increase hydration. It easily spreads over the skin and hair, forming a non-greasy and non-sticky invisible film that prevents the loss of moisture from the surface. This film still allows oxygen, nitrogen, and other important nutrients to pass through but prevents water from evaporating. Ultimately, this leads to hydration and smoothness of the skin and hair.
