Description
Boric acid is a weak water-soluble acid derived from the mineral sassolite. It exists in the form of white crystals or powder and has pungent properties that allow it to act as a cosmetic preservative. By adding boric acid to skin care formulas, personal hygiene products can inhibit the formation of bacteria and prevent infection, thus extending the shelf life of the products. Other ways in which boric acid also works as a product stabilizer include pH regulators, emulsifiers, buffers, and thickeners.
