Description
Hydroxyethylcellulose is a plant-based amino acid used as a preservative, binding emulsifier, and thickener in cosmetic products. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is extracted from cellulose. Cellulose is obtained from alkali, ethylene oxide and ethyl chloride to obtain hydroxyethyl cellulose. It is a water-soluble polymer that provides colloidal protection and can be thickened or diluted for use in a variety of products. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is added to skin care formulations primarily for the beneficial effect it has on the transferability of the formulation solution. It does not have a direct beneficial effect on the skin itself. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a common ingredient in skin care formulations. It acts as an emulsion stabilizer, film former, and viscosity-increasing agent. It is safe to use and improves the overall performance of the product.
