Description
Dimethiconol, also known as silicone resin, is a polymer similar to dimethicone (regular silicone), where two methyl groups at the end of the chain are replaced by hydroxyl (-OH) groups. Silicones improve the feel, appearance, and performance of cosmetic products. They act as conditioners, solvents, and delivery systems for other skincare ingredients. In skincare products, dimethiconol acts as a conditioning agent due to its unique fluidity, which makes it easy to spread, creating a protective barrier on the skin. This is known to create a thin sheen that feels smooth and silky to the touch. In addition, it helps to fill in wrinkles on the face, giving the skin a temporary "plump" appearance. These same conditioning properties make dimethiconol an excellent ingredient for hair care products such as conditioners and leave-in serums. Dimethiconol provides controlled conditioning effects, leaving unhealthy, damaged hair more silky and smooth.
