Muriatic acid is the simplest of the carbonic acids, an odorless, colorless liquid. It is found in nature, present in moss, grass, apples and other fruits. It has a hypertonic and bactericidal effect. It is used in shampoos and tonics for hair as a component that increases blood flow and improves hair nutrition. As a preservative, it can be used at pH 4 and below. It is not a strong antimicrobial agent.
