Description
Polyethylene is a synthetic polymer that is most commonly used in cosmetics as a mechanical exfoliant in scrubs (in the form of microbeads), thickener, film-forming agent, or structuring agent in creams, decorative cosmetics, and skincare products. In decorative cosmetics (such as lipsticks, eye pencils), polyethylene provides a smooth texture, improves durability, and ensures a soft glide. In creams and lotions, it helps stabilize the formula and forms a protective film that prevents moisture loss. Due to the issue of microplastics in the environment, the use of polyethylene in the form of solid particles in scrubs is being reduced in many countries, but it is still actively used in the form of emulsifiers, film-forming agents, or texturizers.
