Description
Sodium Laureth Sulfate is mainly used as a cleansing agent, but it can potentially dry out and worsen the condition of the skin. It can be derived from coconut. It is difficult to incorporate into formulas due to stability issues, but it gives a nice foam. The name may lead to confusion, but Sodium Laureth Sulfate C14-16 is not a sulfate. Sulfonate is related to sulfates, but does not coincide with them. In sulfonate, the sulfur is directly linked to the carbon atom, whereas in sulfate, the sulfur is directly linked to the carbon chain through the oxygen atom. They have similar qualities when it comes to skin irritation, but Sodium Laureth Sulfate C14-16 is not a sulfate.
