Tribehenin is a complex ester of glycerin and behenic acid (a higher fatty acid) that is used as an emollient, thickener, and softener in various cosmetic formulas. It is added to creams, balms, lipsticks, anti-aging and sun protection cosmetics to reduce moisture loss, soften the skin, and improve the texture of the product.
Tribehenin also improves sensory properties - making products smoother, more slippery, and more comfortable to apply. In decorative cosmetics, it helps stabilize the formula and prevent separation of components.
