Zinc PCA is a zinc salt of pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid. It helps control acne and reduce sebum secretion, helping the skin retain moisture. The mechanism of zinc's action on acne may still be a matter of discussion, but it seems there is agreement that this metal's salts reduce inflammation caused by bacteria, possibly by inhibiting an enzyme that catalyzes the production of dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that controls the activity of sebaceous glands. Zinc is also an antibacterial agent, and its salts are used to fight lupus.
