Description
Propylparaben is a preservative added to cosmetic products to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi that can reduce the shelf life of the product and pose a threat to the user's health. However, some studies have shown that propylparaben may have potentially harmful effects on health, particularly as an estrogen mimetic, that is, capable of inheriting the action of the female hormone estrogen. At the same time, to change the level of estrogen, significantly higher concentrations of propylparaben than those used in cosmetics are required, so the risk to human health is considered to be low. However, to avoid possible problems, many cosmetic manufacturers have begun to refuse to use propylparaben and other preservatives that may be harmful to health.
